Product Care and Safety
Product Care & Safety
At Craeviss, we design truly bespoke, artisanal BDSM gear to be safe, durable, and elegant. To ensure your items continue to perform exquisitely and hygienically over time, follow these essential cleaning and maintenance guidelines.
Why Rigorous Cleaning Matters
Even the most premium toys can harbor bacteria: bodily fluids like vaginal secretions, semen, or blood can remain on surfaces, and some pathogens can persist for hours or days if not properly cleaned. Regular sanitisation prevents irritation and reduces the risk of urinary tract, vaginal, or anal infections.
Material-Specific Cleaning: What Works Best
Our pieces may include high-grade silicone, ABS plastics, metal, glass, leather, wood, or electronic components. Each demands special care:
Vinyl • Rubber • Silicone • Glass • Metal • Plastic
-
Wipe off all bodily fluids or lubrication immediately after each use using a clean, damp cloth and an antibacterial, unscented, oil-free soap. This prevents residues from drying into difficult-to-clean films.
 -
Once home, rinse the toy thoroughly under warm tap water with mild soap; use a soft-bristled brush or cloth to gently access ergonomic grooves or molded detailing. Avoid scratching or nicking silicone or jelly-rubber items, as even tiny cracks act as bacterial hideouts.
 -
Fully air-dry (preferably naturally, without artificial heat) in a well-ventilated area—not in an airtight container—before storage. Moisture is bacteria’s ideal breeding ground.
 -
Top-rack dishwasher (without detergent) may be suitable for non-electronic, metal-free glass or hard-plastic toys—but only after verifying your toy’s heat-resistance capability.
 -
For metal items (stainless steel, brass, titanium, clamps), soak in rubbing alcohol (70–90% isopropyl) for 10–20 minutes to disinfect, then rinse and dry completely. This helps eliminate both germs and tarnish.

Leather
-
Leather is sensitive—avoid full immersion. Gently wipe with a soft cloth dampened with lightly soapy water, being especially careful with unfinished leathers like suede or nubuck.
 -
Let fully air-dry, preferably outdoors in a shaded area, before using a pH-neutral leather conditioner to restore suppleness—but test on a small patch first.
 -
Leather toys should remain strictly personal use only. Sharing is ill-advised due to cleaning limitations.

Wood (Paddles • Canes • Handles)
-
For sealed wood finishes, a surface wipe with warm water and mild soap is acceptable; do not soak.
 -
Dry immediately and let rest for several hours. Periodic light buffing or use of food-safe oil helps maintain finish and prevent cracks or splinters.
 -
Inspect carefully before every use—wood failures under pressure can be dangerous.

Electro/Electronic Toys
-
Never submerge powered or USB-charged toys. After unplugging or removing batteries, wipe surfaces with a cloth dampened (not dripping wet) in mild soap solution.
 -
Avoid liquid ingress into battery or charging ports. Replace batteries if leaking is detected—and do not store batteries within the device.

Hygienic Storage & Battery Care
-
Ensure toys are 100% dry before storing. Damp confinement (like sealed boxes or plastic bags) encourages mold and bacteria growth.
 -
Wrap individual items—silicone toys especially—in lint-free cloth (like microfiber or terry) to prevent scratches or material reactions.
 -
Store toys in breathable pouches or lined wooden/lockable storage chests (especially if you keep them near your bedroom for convenience).
 -
Always remove batteries from battery-operated toys before storing. Never store batteries inside the device or in high temperatures, to prevent corrosion and preserve both toy and battery lifespan.

Lubricants and Sharing Protocols
-
Never use oil- or petroleum-based lubes (e.g. Vaseline, baby oil, lanolin-based creams) with latex-based toys or condoms—oil degrades latex and raises infection risk.
 -
Avoid silicone-based lubricants with 100% silicone toys—choose water-based or hybrid lubricants designed for silicone use.
 -
For toys used both anally and vaginally—and especially if being shared—use a fresh condom per use or per partner. This is essential to prevent cross-contamination of gut flora, which can lead to serious conditions such as pelvic inflammatory disease.
